VAQ-131 "LANCERS"
   NAS Whidbey Island WA
             October 2009
This was my first Prowler. I've painted several fixed wing aircraft but never one of these. It is a BIG plane!
I had help from a great crew of Navy guys and gals and together we created a great show bird for the unit!
I actually did work on 2 prowlers, this first one is 500 and is the CAG bird. The second one was nose art on 501.
Here is 500, waiting for a make over.........you can see here just how big the tail surface is!
First we devided up the tail in equal parts then I painted the yellow.
Here I outlined the canopies to bring the blue and yellow aft.  Then  we painted the blue..
Here he masks out the "500" on the wing and even the Chief helps out here on the nose door...
I start painting the design on the tail .......           here it looks like this poor thing was in                                                                                 an accident!
Already getting ready to fly!
Here is 501, the Skippers plane,,painting the nose art on her...
The  words "Molon Labe" (pronounced Lave') is actually engraved on the temple in Greece meaning "over my dead body" or "come and get me" a dare for the enemy.
Kate and I-she was a big help too and a great example of professional women in the military.
Whidbey Island was beautiful and it reminded me of home in Michigan. The people there were really nice and the Navy as usuall treated me well. Thanks VAQ-131
for letting me honor you all.
